As a lover of espresso we always need the best way to make or get the best of an espresso drink. This often comes with crema.

Does a stovetop espresso Maker make crema? Not quite well. There might be some sort of crema produced with some brand of stovetop espresso Maker or by adding a device called cremator.

Why do stovetop espresso makers not produce crema? You might wonder. There are reasons why it is so. To produce crema by the espresso machine is possible because of the high pressure it uses.

How does stovetop espresso Maker work?

Commonly known as the Moka Pot, the stovetop espresso Maker is designed by an Italian named Alfonso Bialetti in 1933. It is one of the easiest invention that still sales today.

The Moka Pot consist of three parts. The bottom, middle and upper part. The bottom part is the one that holds the water. The middle part holds the grind coffee and the upper part holds the brewed espresso.

How does the Moka Pot work? To produce and Espresso, you need a pressure and this is provided by the heated water.

The bottom part of the Moka Pot is filled with filtered water upto the safety valve. The safety have is important for security reasons so as not to explode in case off excessive pressure build up on the pot which might be caused by blockage.

After the bottom part is filled to the required level, the middle part which consists of filter and funnel is fine with grind coffee and placed on the lower part filled with water. 

The final part of the stovetop espresso Maker is placed and screwed. This final part holds the brewed espresso.

Then the Moka Pot is placed on the stovetop. What then happens.

When the water boild and heated, it produces pressure upto 1.5 bar which will push the water up through the funnel containing the grind coffee which causes brewing and with further pressure it enters the top part of the Moka Pot. Then the espresso is ready to serve.

Is a stovetop espresso maker good?

One thing about anything we eat or drink is that it need to be safe and healthy. So this will have make people to ask if Moka Pot is safe.

As we see above on how the Moka Pot work, the espresso produced by this machine is safe and good like the one produced by other means though not the same.

But another area of safety is in the use of the product. Since the stovetop espresso Maker uses pressure, there is need for safety measures. The boiling water pot where the pressure is generated has a safety valve which reduces the pressure in my he pot in case of excessive pressure build up. So the stovetop espresso Maker is safe.

Is stovetop espresso real espresso?

When people hear of espresso Maker, they desire those fine shot produced by the espresso machine. But the espresso machine is quite different from the stovetop espresso Maker.

Do stovetop espresso makers make good espresso. Yes, a stovetop espresso Maker produces fine espresso but not as good as that produce by the espresso machine. The Moka Pot produce pressure of 1.5 bar which is not enough to produce the real Espresso.

To make real Espresso, you need a machine to produce a pressure of 8 to 10 bar. This will produce a nice Espresso shot with good taste and crema. To have that you need and Espresso machine not the stovetop espresso Maker because it doesn’t have the capacity.
